In this series, we take a look at upcoming changes and features for Kolab Now. Part I gave a high level overview of our roadmap, Part II looked into changes to our payment system. In this post we are going to take a look at how users sign up for our service. We offer a 30 day money back guarantee for a while now. It has served us well in allowing potential customer to try our service without having commit to paying for a service that might not be a good fit for them in the end.
The old way
The process to sign up for the trial and potentially obtain a refund is currently quite cumbersome. First you have to make your first payment to activate the account after signing up. If you then realize that Kolab Now might not provide the kind of service you were looking for, you have to manually delete your account within the trial period and write to support indicating that you want to make use of the 30 day money back guarantee. A customer support agent then has to verify your request and issue the refund.
The whole process unnecessarily takes time out of the trial users and our support stuffs lives and makes it harder for potential customers to sign up than it needs to be.
A proper Trial
We believe in our product and want to make it as easy as possible to test it out. Therefore, the 30 day money back guarantee will be replaced by a true one month trial period. When you sign up, your account will be ready for a month long test-run without the need for any payment. If you like the offer, you can continue using your account and pay for it with our new payment system.
One reason we required a first payment before activating the account were pesky spammers that tried to abuse our service and our strong privacy guarantees to liter the internet. We took some countermeasures last year and are confident that we can deal with this problem in the future though some limitation might be in place for trial accounts.
