‘A small change for existing users; A giant leap for new sign-ups..’

Today we announce a change to the Kolab Now account types that will improve the user experience for new users.

Since the start of Kolab Now, new users could choose between two different types of accounts upon sign-up:

* Individual accounts, which was bound to a Kolab Now owned domain name (such as kolabnow.com, mykolab.ch, libertymail.com, etc) or..

* Group accounts, with which the new users could make use of their own private domain names.

This worked well for a long time, but lately this division of account types has caused confusion for new users. Therefore it was decided to simplify the systems, and bring the two types together into one unified Kolab Now account type for all.

This change will be implemented today:

                                                Monday, 24.03.2025

What does this imply for existing users of the Kolab Now individual account?

Existing users of individual accounts will notice an additional item ‘Domains‘ in their account dashboard (after a logout and login). It is now possible for those users to add private domains to their accounts, and then create new users within such domain.

If john@kolabnow.com add the domain example.com to his account, he can then create the user john@example.com within his account.

What does this imply for existing users of the Kolab Now group account?

Existing users of group accounts will not see any change at all.

Jane@example.ch is still able to add domains and users to the account as it was before the change.

What does this imply for new users of the Kolab Now; just signing up?

New users signing up for Kolab Now will be able to choose from a list of available domains or use their own private domain.

What is the price?

The price is the same…

As it was before with the group accounts, the first private domain in the new, unified account type is free. For each extra added domain, there is a fee of CHF 0.50 pr. domain/month.

We hope that this change will have the expected effect; remove confusion and simplify the experience for users when signing up and later using kolab Now.

Have a sunny day!
