Transparency reporting..
For the sake of transparency we used to report on our interactions with authorities every year. Unfortunately we have missed a few of those reports. Some users missed such updates, and , not only for those users, but also according to our terms of service, and for the sake of transparency, we want to restart this good routine. This post is the transparency reporting for the year 2025.
Administrative Requests: 5
This type of request is coming from the Swiss authorities, and we are by law required to provide in such situations. It is requests for email address ownership and additional information about such account holder. This is the information that we have registered about you in our systems.
In 2025, we have received 5 such requests of which we rejected 1.
Retroactive Metadata Requests: 0
This type of request asks for the metadata for an account, meaning the source IP addresses that may have been used, the senders to and recipients from the account, and such “metadata” — but not the content.
We have received zero such requests in 2025.
All Data Requests: 0
With this type of request the judiciary commands us to surrender all metadata and all contents for a certain account. This type of request is often preceded with a more informal request to put a “legal hold” on the account, such that no data is lost while the process of paperwork and adjudication is completed.
We have received zero such request in 2025.
Live Interception Requests: 0
Also known as a “wire tap”. Obviously, the metadata is available, but this case is special because it includes content. It also includes near real-time monitoring of what’s going on with the account. As such, it is one of the most intrusive requests.
In 2025 we received zero such requests.
Extra curricular activities..
Apart from these legally required types of requests, which we only accept when they arrive via the official channels, we sometimes receive requests for information of a less official type via less official channels. Needless to write that we of course reject all such requests.
With this information and these numbers we wish your a very happy 2026.
